Sermon preached on September 2, 2007 by Chet Boyd III about the heart of Jesus’ commandment about the destructiveness and sinfulness of anger and how we should live what we preach more than we preach.

Jesus gets to the heart of the matter about adultery and marital unfaithfulness with his teaching on lust. Broken marriages start in the mind before the messy outcome is witnessed by the rest of the world.

The Sermon on the Mount is about the life of a person who has been changed by Jesus. Jesus is not just telling us that is we do certain things then we will go to heaven. He tells us that he will change us and give us the ability to live a certain way. Jesus primary concern is our hearts toward Him and others. In this passage, Jesus tells us in this passage how His followers treat others in relationship to their promises, obligations and retaliation.

In Matthew 6:1-18, Jesus Gets to the heart of the issue on Giving, Praying and Fasting not letting us sidestep with our desire to look good.

In Matthew 6:19-24, Jesus draws a line between serving God and money.

In Matthew 6:25-34, Jesus tells us that we are his most valuable creation. We are important to Him and our life has meaning. This life is not all there is. We are told to seek God’s kingdom instead of thinking that we are on the throne and God and people exist to fulfill our needs. Worrying about the future is pointless because we can’t change it. God wants us to put more effort into trusting Him each day and seek Him. In doing this we begin to

Matthew 7:7-14 - Jesus teaches about the the willingness of the Father to give us good things but we have to ask first.

In Matthew 7:13-23. Jesus describes Himself as the narrow gate and warns us about following false roads and teachers.

In Matthew 7:23-29, hearing and agreeing with what Jesus says will not work unless you put His teaching into practice.
