Claire and I really like our hometown First American Bank and Trust for it’s convenience in Kroger and good customer service. Plus if your employer/business banks with them they have a new checking account that pays out 3.69%. That’s not too shabby.

However, it can’t beat what I stumbled upon on Clark Howard’s website while hunting for some other information.

Southern Community Bank and Trust pays out 6.0% on their checking accounts! No minimum…they do have a couple of requirements but you will probably already do what they ask…and they don’t charge you any fees if you fail to meet the requirements…they just pay a smaller amount.

If you don’t have personal ties and people you are hoping to influence for Jesus at your current bank…then perhaps 6% is calling your name.
