Doctrine of Election...

I recently overheard a rather heated debate on the points of Armininism vs. Calvinism. I would like to add only the following words of someone much wiser and more Godly than myself.

Important as it is that we recognize God working in us, I would yet warn against a too-great preoccupation with the thought. It is a sure road to sterile passivity. God will not hold us responsible to understand the mysteries of election, predestination and the divine sovereignty. The best and safest way to deal with these truths is to raise our eyes to God and in deepest reverence say, ‘O Lord, Thou knowest.’ Those things belong to the deep and mysterious Profound of God’s omniscience. Prying into them may make theologians, but it will never make saints.

Hey, that’s a pretty good middle ground. Jesus did not command men to repent and believe in Calvinism or Arminianism, but to repent and believe the Gospel! Boy, if our salvation depended that and not the free grace given by the Gospel, we’d all be in lots of trouble. So, to quote Paul Washer, Get to the Gospel! Spend your life on your knees, get away from men! Study the Cross.

You are right John. Those are not issues that are as important as repentance and faith in Jesus. I agree with Alex. It is sometimes too easy to get into discussions when you believe something strongly. These discussions distract from the main issues that we should be focusing on. Grace and Peace.
