ummm…just want to clarify that Bryan is joking around…not promoting.

But you know, discernment truly is from God, and His (whole) Word is protection against teaching that is either incomplete or that perverts Scripture. Otherwise, it terrifies me how quickly I can deceive myself without our Father’s correction. Don’t you think that even the emotion as Osteen delivers his testimony is genuine, that perhaps he is deceived and has misunderstood Who is God? Is it because no one has explained to him? But he has the Bible… so does he refuse to believe the truth and rather desires the praise of men who like to hear things that make us feel good about ourselves? I don’t know… what do you think? Is it possible to be deceived forever? Or does God always give opportunity for doctrinal correction that saves us?? I hope God doesn’t allow me to deceive myself or to be deceived by others—but the truth is in His Word!

P.S. Thank you all for praying for our tests. Results were good, praise God!

I believe that we are born deceived and that only God’s grace quickens our hearts to be able to see the truth and understand it. Eph 2:1-10

II Corinthians 4 clearly teaches that it is the devil who goes about blinding people from the truth. That is the bad news. The good news is that Jesus is the Light of the world and that those who believe in Jesus now carry the Light with us. We as jars of clay with God’s power have the opportunity and responsibility to shine in the darkness - so that people can see and be saved from the Enemy’s deceit.

As far as believers are concerned…no believer is 100% accurate in understanding every Scripture - though hopefully we grow more and more in understanding. Each person still has some things or many things they don’t quite get - hopefully that number becomes reduced as we grow in understanding of the love of God and become more like Jesus.

A strict quest for understanding is not the answer. The more important pursuit revolves around the following sorts of questions:

  1. Am I growing in loving God with all that I am?
  2. Am I growing in loving my neighbor as myself?
  3. Am I growing in loving my enemies?
  4. Am I growing in being a good steward of all God has entrusted me with?
  5. Am I growing in my relationship with God through His Word and through prayer?
  6. Am I growing in victory over sin?
  7. Am I becoming more like Jesus?

If we can say yes to these types of questions then we can have good confidence that our misunderstandings are decreasing and that our understanding is increasing.

Kayla - i hope that helps - please let me know - or if i can help with anything.

Kayla you said, “so does he refuse to believe the truth and rather desires the praise of men who like to hear things that make us feel good about ourselves?”

I think you are right and that the Bible agrees with you on that. Not only does the devil blind people’s eyes, we are helping him by blinding our own eyes. Romans 1:18 and by judging other people who are blinded. Romans 2:1-2.

We deceive ourselves even when we think that we are searching for the truth as well. If we are following our hearts (Jeremiah 17:9), or following our deceitful desires while telling others that we are searching for the truth (James 3:16), we are going to be in continued deception. God determines where we are born and in what circumstances so that these circumstances and hardships that we have should lead us to God for salvation and to see the futility of the world’s system. acts 17:26-27
