corporeal prayer

First off, it was so great to have John and Cheryl Reeves here with us on Sunday. I hope everyone was blessed by their presence. During his sermon on Sunday evening, John Reeves mentioned having something local that we, as a church, could communally support through prayer. I think this would be a great opportunity for dcf to grow together and begin having more of an impact on our community. A few ideas right off the top of my head include Mercy Clinic, maybe a specific shelter, halfway house, or school, maybe even dcf’s own youth group… just something small and focused. any thoughts or ideas??

Thoughts: Good job Fountain on mentioning “small and focused”. It’s so easy to want to pick dozens of things and pray for them all…but our prayers could become stale and lacking love and compassion for the subject of prayer.

Ideas: Mercy would be a great place to start, in addition to a couple of other local social service organizataions - the Sparrow’s Nest and Atlanta Union Mission which operates the Potter’s House outside of Jefferson. All three are social services organizations seeking to meet people’s life needs while seeking to evangelize those who are lost.

Isaiah 35:3 - we need strength from God to pray with everything else we have going on that so easily distracts us.
“Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees.”

I think that is an awesome idea! I think praying for Mercy clinic would be great since we have so many folks involved in their day to day functioning.

Thanks for the post John. I would love if you guys would remember The Healing Place in your prayers. I am currently serving on the Board of Directors, and we are going through a bit of a rebuilding process. There is a lot of work still left to be done. Please pray that we will continue to seek God for wisdom and that He will continue to use The Healing Place in Athens.
