Malatya-To Live is Christ

Wow. What a moving film. After watching this documentary about the 3 Turkish martyrs I am filled with a mixture of encouragement and conviction. After the film, during our time of prayer, Claire said something that really stuck with me. She prayed that we would not only be willing to die for our Lord, but also to live for Him; a decision that we must in fact make everyday. Oftentimes this decision must be made several times a day with the temptation and sin of the world ever present. How can we die for Christ if we aren’t living for Him? We can’t. Christ called out to those who would claim Him “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23) As Jesus took up His cross, He marched off to die a gruesome death….no long goodbyes, no second guessing, no looking back. He calls us to do the same. For us, as diciples of Jesus, taking up our cross means to die in somewhat of a different way. We are called to die to this world, to our carnal nature, and to sin. Daily. Though justification occurs the moment we believe, our santification continues over the course of our earthly lives. In a sense, to live for Christ is to die for Him each day. The outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day (2 Corinthians 4:16) Do you want to know if you would die for Christ? First ask yourself if you are living for Him. Answer the latter, and you will know the former.

Amen! The martyrs in the video and the loved ones left behind were inspiring. It was amazing to see how God was speaking to the men and their families through scripture, almost preparing them for the tragedy. It was shocking to hear the small percentage of Christians that live in Turkey. They truly need our prayers.

Excellent posts! Let’s keep the dialogue going…

A couple of verses to ponder:

Hebrews 13:3 - “Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body.”

1 Corinthians 12:12 - “For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.”
